Keeping dirt, debris, and moisture from entering an outdoor junction box is its main objective. Junction boxes that have these safeguards, waterproof construction, and particle resistance are referred to as IP-rated junction boxes. Elettro provides the best IP-rated junction boxes in a wide range of sizes and configurations.

Any junction box with an IP rating has a specified level of solid and liquid penetration resistance. However, they are not all the same. Some containers can only block water droplets that are vertical. Others can withstand complete submersion.

For many years, Elettro has been producing IP-rated junction boxes. Elettro provides waterproof enclosures that are suitable for a range of situations if you need to protect your electrical equipment from stray dust, dirt, or water.

UNDERSTANDING IP RATINGS

IP, often known as international protection, stands for ingress protection. An enclosure's resistance to penetration, foreign objects, and moisture is measured using an IP rating, a standard of evaluation. The IP rating system is described in the international standard EN 60529. An example of a typical IP rating is IP65. The two numbers indicate the degree of defense an enclosure offers against external liquid and solid items.

The first digit represents solids. For instance, the six indicates that our IP65 junction box is completely dust-resistant. The five indicate that it can endure weak water jets coming from any angle. You must be able to read ratings to comprehend what an IP-rated junction box can withstand. A junction box with an IP66 rating is completely secured from solid penetration and powerful water jets. On the other hand, an IP00 junction box offers zero defense against moisture and intruders.

The IP36 certification of a junction box makes it excellent against high moisture levels, but items smaller than a 2.5mm wire can easily get through. Although a junction box with an IP6 or IP63 rating is entirely impervious to dust ingress, it is unable to deflect horizontal or even acute water sprays. Elettro advises that you first evaluate your surroundings to ascertain the degree of solid and liquid protection you'll want. Elettro produces junction boxes for a variety of settings and makes it simple for you to choose exactly what you want.

Why does the IP rating matter?

What factors should I consider while choosing an IP-rated junction box? You can determine the degree of protection provided by each junction box by using its IP rating. They outline the sort of setting that a junction box is best suited for. It's crucial to understand the IP rating needed for a certain arrangement. If you don't, you might not be protecting it sufficiently.

Perhaps the most important factor in determining a junction box's strength and lifetime is its IP rating. A junction box with protection will offer electrical components better protection, and it will do so for a lot longer than a junction box without protection. A shielded box is impervious to solid objects that may scratch or harm it. Similarly, moisture which is what causes rust can be repelled. Elettro enclosures and junction boxes have the benefit of being able to be equipped with useful powder-coated finishes. A carbon steel junction box's lifespan can be significantly extended by powder coating because of how well it resists rust and corrosion.

Because our customers need junction boxes in a variety of places, Elettro also provides a wide selection of colors. There are many other alternatives to suit your preferences, including an anti-glare color option (ANSI 61 grey), a forest green to assist your enclosure blend in with the surroundings, and a reflective white finish that is useful for shielding components from heat from the sun. Elettro boxes are robust even without the covering. From the tough and forgiving 304 to the high-grade stainless steel 316, which offers heavy-duty protection, we produce them.
