What Is ABS Plastic?
ABS is short for Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene. That’s quite a mouthful, so let’s break it down into some more basic terms. Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene is a thermoplastic polymer, a highly versatile type of plastic that’s used for many different kinds of manufacturing.
Thermoplastic polymers are useful because they become flexible (or moldable) above a specified temperature and solidify when cooled. That’s why thermoplastic polymers like ABS plastic are widely used in the process of injection moulding.
Properties and Uses of ABS Plastic
ABS boxes are impact resistant and durable, but they can easily be machined. That’s a major reason why ABS plastic is so commonly used in the world of electronics, where box modifications are frequently necessary to accommodate connectors, switches, LEDs, etc.
ABS plastic is also one of the most cost-effective materials available today.
